Tim Atkim’s report by Beth Willard on Navarre – The House of Lucullus

La Casa de Lúculo, a sustainable winery producing organic and natural wines, is proud to announce its prominent presence in Beth Willard’s recent Tim Atkim report on the Navarra wine region. In this report, three of La Casa de Lúculo’s flagship wines received exceptional ratings, further consolidating the winery’s reputation as a producer of high-quality, environmentally friendly wines.

The 2019 Lúculo Origen wine has been awarded an impressive rating of 93 points, highlighting its distinctive character and faithful expression of the Navarrese terroir. This vintage has been praised for its harmonious balance, seductive aromas, and complexity on the palate, making it an outstanding choice for discerning wine lovers.

“Garnacha from a single vineyard of very old vines, on paper 60 years old but rumour has it they are 100 years +, located around the town of Sada. This is a concentrated Navarran red with raspberry fruit and a touch of liquorice. Balsamic notes bring a certain freshness to the wine and there are exotic, woody spice notes from 18 months in 500L and 225L French oak. This is a big and serious Garnacha with a fruity and persistent finish.” Beth Willard.

Chloss Terroir also achieved an outstanding rating of 93 points in Tim Atkin’s report. This wine, made from carefully selected grapes, impressed me with its elegance, depth, and natural elaboration.

“La Casa de Lúculo has produced a fabulously fresh and fruity natural wine (no added sulphites) from their organic vineyards, all harvested by hand. It is light and bright, with a Pinot Noir-like character, with loads of wild strawberries and tomato vine. Tannins are ripe with just the right amount of grip, and there’s a touch of spice on the finish.” Beth Willard.

Finally, the Garnacha grape Cátulo Tinto 2023 received a score of 92 points, consolidating its position as a high-quality organic wine and an excellent representative of the Navarra area’s wine diversity.

The team at La Casa de Lúculo and Axial Vinos celebrate these achievements with gratitude to all who have contributed to this success, from our winegrowers to our winemakers. These distinctions in the Tim Atkin report by Beth Willard, following her visit to Navarra, are a recognition of our team’s hard work and dedication and an inspiration to continue raising the quality standard in producing high-quality, sustainable, organic, and natural wines.
